AEDEQ, asociación española de equinoterapias – Spanish association for equine therapies.
We mainly research the legal, economic, ethic, logistic, and social aspects of equine therapies. We have organized various courses for therapists and instructors, at all levels, from initial to master. We have provided hippotherapy and equine assisted psychotherapy for several years, and then we moved to a new stable. Now we are organizing the new services, although most of them are not active yet. We are also active in the social equine therapy as well as in leisure, sports and educative activities assisted by horses. We are promoting the REDEQUI cooperation project: an international network of pedagogic farms based on equine therapies, which uses tourism as a source of income to support the therapeutic team and extend accessibility to poor people. We held also some programmes of therapeutic driving and vaulting, and we are preparing riders for adapted equestrian sports.

The Arteveldehogeschool Gent(school for higher education) organises every second year a interdisciplinary postgraduate course for professionals in health and welfare sciences. The course contents in the first year: 126 hours courses and 90 hours observation in EAT settings. In the second year 60 hours practical work in a EAT setting of the own discipline, 2 days with case studies and an individual final project on EAT. Maximum 24 students are accepted in a course.

The Italian national school C.N.R.A.F.A.N.I.R.E. of Education and Training is recognized by the high authority of the State, Ministry of Health, have also memorandum of understanding with Education and University Ministry and it is recognized by Italian Republic President – DPR. There are two programmes: one for the University and one it is own of the school. The last one is approved by Italian Ministry of Health. It is organized by 860 hours and divided into 5 units, each of one are specifically for doctors and psychologists, for therapists, for school teachers, for auxiliaries, for equestrian teachers and educators of disabled. Each units are organized in sub-units, for example we have tree sub-units of 40 hours each one, for therapists. For some of units it is necessary to do stages. The language is Italian but it is possible translate into French, English or Spanish. There are no charges for foreigners.

Förderkreis für Therapeutisches Reiten e.V. is an organization which offers a training program to become a riding therapist. Founded in 1947, Green Chimneys is a nationally known, non-profit organization recognized as a leader in restoring possibilities and creating futures for children with emotional, behavioral and learning challenges. Recognized as an innovator in animal-assisted therapy, Green Chimneys operates a residential treatment for children, a special education school and offers specialized treatment and educational and recreational services. There are 200 farm animals, unreleasable wildlife and a small number of service dogs in training at the farm. Grupo REYTE –Rehabilitation and Therapy- is a comprehensive centre dedicated to improve the health of people. High Hopes Therapeutic Riding, Inc. Located in Old Lyme, CT. USA is a NARHA Premier Accredited centre that has been providing training and education opportunities to the field for over 15 years. Ioannina Therapeutic Riding Center established in 15 acres in a very beautiful green area of 1000 acres and it is 10 minutes from the Center of Ioannina city. We have 7 horses who work in therapeutic riding and hippotherapy programs, in riding school, in vaulting classes and in the pony club for children from 2 to 6 years. Trails around the Farm are available for riders to enjoy the surrounding countryside. Also we run creative activities classes.
All activities are taught in either of our indoor or outdoor arenas. Our staff composed of two Physical Educators, 3 Speech Therapist, a Psychologist and a Doctor.

The Mission of the Pennsylvania Council on Therapeutic Horsemanship (PACTH)is: To create awareness of the benefits horses can provide children and adults who have disabilities and to encourage the development of services for programmes offering all types of equine assisted activities through education, research and application.
Polish Hippotherapeutic Association (PHA) was founded in 1992 and since 1999 is a member of HETI. The Society was established by doctors, therapists and horsemanship instructors who since 80’s were engaged in introducing hippotherapy into rehabilitation of disabled people, especially children with cerebral palsy. In Poland, the word hippotherapy defines all therapeutic activities concerning horses and horse riding therefore the Society offers not only horse physiotherapy but also therapeutic horse riding and even recreation and horsemanship sport for disabled people. Currently the Society has 400 members. Mission of the Society: supporting and promoting hippotherapy as a rehabilitation method supporting and promoting hippotherapy as a form of beneficial pedagogic, psychotherapeutic and sociotherapeutic influence improving and unification of hippotherapists’ skills providing members an access to professional literature and information about hippotherapy’s progress in Poland and abroad
RDA Japan is a certified non-profit organization which promotes and supports safe riding and activities with the horse for people with disabilities to improve their quality of life. Riding for the Disabled Association incorporating Carriage Driving
RDA UK’s aim is to provide people with disabilities the opportunity to ride, or carriage drive, to benefit their health and well-being. It provides training programmes for all its instructors, volunteers, horses and ponies for this specialised work. RDA comprises 18 Regions divided into Counties, which are subdivided into Groups. Group instructors keep their own records in a logbook and their standard of teaching is regularly monitored. Group instructors are encouraged to take the national RDA Instructors examination (RDAI). They can then progress to the RDA Senior Instructors’ examination (RDASI), the highest qualification available for UK RDA instructors. The first part of the RDASI is the British Horse Society Intermediate Teaching Test. The second part is ‘Teaching riders with a disability.’ Both qualifications include horse care, teaching a class and an individual, RDA knowledge, and medical knowledge, (including physiotherapy. The Therapeutic Horsemanship program at St. Andrews is the first one of its kind in the United States. The program of study leads to a B. A. in Therapeutic Horsemanship, a degree which can open numerous career paths. Students study a variety of disciplines in the Therapeutic Horsemanship program such as: horse science, stable management, anatomy and physiology, business, equitation, psychology, as well as specialized studies in therapeutic horsemanship. The Ride-Like-a-Knight TH program and internships in therapeutic horsemanship are important features of the curriculum. Students show dedication and compassion through their countless hours of community service with the “Ride-Like-A-Knight” Therapeutic Horsemanship program. It offers lessons in ground work, horsemanship, riding and vaulting for 120 students with a variety of disabilities in the community allowing a practical experience for the students majoring in Therapeutic Horsemanship.

The Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Therapeutic Riding (ACPTR)
The ACPTR is a Clinical Interest Group (CIG) recognised by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) in Great Britain by meeting certain criteria. It fulfils the role of a CIG by: – Providing Continuing Professional Development and education – Influencing and informing – Promoting Physiotherapy – Quality Assurance – Promoting Research and Clinical Effectiveness ACPTR provides a post graduate course for therapists who choose to use the horse and its movement therapeutically and for Physiotherapists to qualify in Hippotherapy. It also organises workshops, study days and a biennial conference.
Ride On offers Therapeutic Riding, Hippotherapy and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy at two different locations in Southern California (Los Angeles). Serving children and adults with a variety of disabilities.
Wilson offers a four-year baccalaureate degree in Equine Facilitated Therapeutics. This major is a rigorous curriculum emphasizing teaching and training. Required courses cover many disciplines including: biology, equestrian studies, psychology, education, and equine facilitated therapeutics. Wilson is a small liberal arts college hosting many international students.
Italian Equestrian Federation has a specific Department about Therapeutic Riding. It aims to develop the opportunities for disabled people to be treated by T.R.Every year special training courses for Riding Instructors and social-health area Therapists are organized. The T.R. Department works on special researches in the mental health field, especially on T.R. use in Psychiatric Rehabilitation. Moreover Congresses, seminars, workshops are organized to improve and promote T.R.
We offer leadership, team building and communication workshops for people of all ages from commercial organisations, schools and charities. In partnership with therapists and counsellors, we also offer therapeutic sessions. Currently all our work is done on the ground at carefully chosen venues in UK and overseas. Our programmes are fully backed by university research as Beth is studying for a PhD at Edinburgh Napier university. Her topic is “Measuring the Impact of Horses on Humans.”
The Therapeutic Horsemanship practitioner course is designed for those who wish to lead groundwork-based equine activities that promote mental health and emotional well-being. It covers all the knowledge and skills required to run a Therapeutic Horsemanship session including planning the session, choosing a suitable horse (or assisting a participant in choosing a horse), delivering the bulk of the instruction, supervising assistants and being accountable for the overall safety and wellbeing of all involved. During a Therapeutic Horsemanship session, the practitioner’s focus is largely on watching how the participant interacts with the horse and being ready to provide instruction, help a participant identify an emotion or offer a relevant life metaphor for a given situation. It is also the job of the practitioner to oversee the care, welfare and training of the horses involved.
Horse Power is a NARHA Accredited Therapeutic Horsemanship program which has specialized in Equine Facilitated Mental Health and Learning for 20 years. We offer a three month course in the spring and fall, and a one week course in the winter, for instructors desiring to become certified by NARHA at the Registered or Advanced Level. Horse Power is a NARHA Approved Training Course and has been offering certification for instructors for over 10 years. Extensive coursework includes supervised teaching; bi-weekly riding lessons, as well as availability of daily riding; stablemanagement presentations; mental health, physical, cognitive and learning disabities lectures for experts in the field; information on the NARHA Precautions and Contraindications; and the business of starting and running a therapeutic riding centre are all included. Comfortable and inviting on site furnished housing is available. No prior teaching experience required. Small group size allows for personalized attention.

A clinical interest group of the Norwegian Physiotherapy Society (NFF), we hold post graduate courses for Physiotherapists to qualify in order to treat patients with therapeutic riding. We also provide workshops, study days and an annual seminar.
Equest serves over 400 riders annually in a variety of EAAT programmes. These include sports riding, hippotherapy, vaulting, carriage driving, Horse for Heroes, and equine assisted psychotherapy. Equest also offers two NARHA apporved instructor training course annually.
